Observing the Clusters

Some of the best Open Clusters

NGC457 - The Owl Cluster

This could be the title for a book! Clusters are the unsung heroes of deep-sky observing - don't underestimate them.

They have three big things going for them:-
1. They are impressive in small telescopes or binoculars. In fact (image stabilised) binoculars are best for several clusters
2. They can be enjoyed from suburban back gardens - even in towns!
3. The stars are sometimes coloured - about the only deep-sky objects where you can see colour.

I have split them into two categories - for me basically before and after Christmas!

Autumn Open Clusters - a selection of many less well known clusters around northern Cygnus.

Winter Open Clusters - some popular gems, many in full colour.
